Project status

In Development (DV)

Tucked just north of Zutendaal and a short drive east of Hasselt, this 2-hectare site marks a small but important piece of land at the edge of the Hoge Kempen National Park. Managed by 4Nature, the project is focused on boosting local biodiversity and improving forest condition in an area where natural spaces meet farmland and rural development.

Key benefits of this restoration project include:

  • Diversifying existing vegetation with native tree and plant species
  • Clearing invasive species to give native ecosystems space to thrive
  • Supporting carbon storage through improved woodland health
  • Expanding habitat for native birds, insects, and small mammals
  • Strengthening the ecological buffer around Hoge Kempen National Park
  • Enhancing the landscape’s role in connecting nearby green zones

While modest in size, this site plays a meaningful role in supporting the wider natural network around the national park, helping build a healthier, more resilient landscape for wildlife and future generations.

"This modest 2ha block near Zutendaal is so important to us. It was one of the first places we set up and it has already come so far. Lets see where it will go in the future.
